Marauder offers little more than a washed-out version of post-Bright Lights Interpol.
Marauder is the sixth studio album by American rock band Interpol. It was released on August 24, 2018, by Matador Records. The album was produced by Dave Fridmann and recorded at his studio, Tarbox Road, in Cassadaga, New York from December 6, 2017 through April 18, 2018. Three singles were released from the album: "The Rover" on June 7, "Number 10" on July 30, and "If You Really Love Nothing" on August 23.
Marauder is the least-bad Interpol album in more than a decade, but that still doesn’t make it great. Interpol were once able to transmute urban ennui into something so transcendent, even the most sheltered and secure suburban kids understood. On Marauder, there’s a new kind of emptiness, of hearing an Interpol album that doesn’t really seem concerned with doing better than good enough.
Interpol – Marauder artwork. It also sounds remarkably like the work of a band who’ve learned from their mistakes. Around the time of 2007’s Our Love to Admire, the album on which Interpol made their major-label assisted push for mainstream success, frontman Paul Banks’ default vocal setting was a stentorian bellow, which fitted with the booming, stadium-ready sound constructed by Muse producer Rich Costey . It’s among the factors that make Marauder a mature album, rather than the work of people hemmed in by their past, cowed by the sense that they can never hope to be as exciting as they were on arrival.
Marauder is still Interpol, and it’s still pretty good. It’s got mood and emotion for days. But because the album is marred by nonexistent bass lines and, most concerningly, production and mixing choices that run completely at odds with Interpol’s natural strengths and most beloved idiosyncrasies, it’s nowhere near great. thinking back at what feelings previous albums from Interpol created in me i was hoping this album will do the same. send me back to somethinking back at what feelings previous albums from Interpol created in me i was hoping this album will do the same. send me back to some moments back in time, have those nihilistic views but also a certain.
Marauder is the sixth studio album by American indie rock band Interpol. It was released on August 24, 2018, by Matador Records Marauder. Studio album by Interpol. album later in the year so they could commence the anniversary tour for their 2002 debut album, Turn on the Bright Lights. The tour lasted from August to October 2017.
Marauder is Interpol’s sixth studio LP and follows the release of 2014’s El Pintor which achieved critical acclaim. During a press conference which took place in Mexico City, Paul Banks said the name Marauder comes from a character which appears in a number of the songs. One song Paul said this character appears in is Stay in Touch. Marauder sees lyricist Paul Banks being more autobiographical than he was abstract on past releases such as Turn On the Bright Lights and Antics. Marauder’ doesn’t have its own identity, but it does feel like Interpol are back on the right track. It’s helped them recapture their sense of detached fun, like wearing your sharpest suit to the dingiest bar. Unoriginal?
The record itself sounds absolutely wonderful. This along with El Pintor are such a solid 1-2 punch. Reply Notify me Helpful.
While they were making Marauder, Interpol were also touring to commemorate the 15th anniversary of their debut album, Turn on the Bright Lights, and having their salad days chronicled in Meet Me in the Bathroom, Lizzy Goodman's oral history of New York City's early-2000s rock revival. Frequently, these are the achievements of an act ready to rest on its laurels, but instead of viewing this point in their career as a plateau, Interpol use it as a springboard to push harder, and rock louder, than they have in some time
