Rock Action is the third studio album by Scottish post-rock band Mogwai. The album was produced by Dave Fridmann of Mercury Rev in New York. Rock Action brought with it some changes to Mogwai's sound that they would continue to develop later, including the use of electronic instruments. While song structures on this album are typical of the band in most cases and respects, some of the contrasting dynamics have been toned down slightly and many of the songs focus more on texture than on structure

Still, Rock Action certainly has its peak moments. Aside from "You Don't Know Jesus," two shorter tracks- the opening "Dial: Revenge" and "Secret Pint"- perfectly showcase the strengths of Mogwai's new direction. The former, which features the talents of the aforementioned Gruff, puts vocals to better effect than the band's previous singing excursions, creating a stunningly gorgeous orchestral rock track that seems to extend far beyond its 3xBD-minute duration

Probably Mogwai’s most ‘rock’ song on this ironically titled album too. 2 Rights Make 1 Wrong Similar to You Don’t Know Jesus, it uses a basic guitar progression then throws in strings, horns, trademark vox effects and varying drum patterns. This track also leads nicely onto the bands next album, as it has a similar sound and atmosphere. Its also one of the longest tracks on this album.

Rock Action is the third studio album from experimental rock act Mogwai. I havenīt been really satisfied by their first two album Young Team (1997) and Come on Die Young (1999) even though they are both high quality products. Itīs also the most exciting release out of the first.
