Sex & Food (stylized as sex + food) is the fourth studio album by New Zealand band Unknown Mortal Orchestra, released on 6 April 2018 through Jagjaguwar. According to lead singer Ruban Nielson, the album features a more expansive and eclectic sound than previous records, inspired by the international locations where it was recorded, including Mexico City, Seoul, Hanoi and Reykjavík, as well as Nielson's native Auckland and home Portland.

Sex & Food might be reluctant to fully reveal itself, but in being the most uncompromising album in Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s discography it also feels like Nielson’s most honest musical statement to date.

Unknown Mortal Orchestra will embark on a North American tour in support of Sex and Food April 22nd in Northampton, Massachusetts. Over the course of the tour, the band will receive support from Makeness and Shamir. Sex and Food Track List. 1. A God Called Hubris 2. Major League Chemicals 3. Ministry of Alienation 4. Hunnybee 5. Recorded in a variety of locales from Seoul and Hanoi to Reykjavik, Mexico City, and Auckland, Sex & Food is a practical musical travelogue, with local musicians from the countries that Neilson and his band visited pitching in throughout. Sex & Food is the most eclectic and expansive Unknown Mortal Orchestra release yet, from the light-footed R&B of "Hunnybee" to the stomping flange of "Major League Chemicals

Deluxe bundle for Sex & Food. Recorded at: Panoram Studios - Mexico City, Mexico Union Studios - Seoul, South Korea Phu Sa Studios - Hanoi, Vietnam Rasmus auga - Reykjavik, Iceland Ruban's basement - Portland, Oregon Kody's home studio - Auckland, New Zealand.

Unknown Mortal Orchestra is a Portland, Oregon-based New Zealand psychedelic rock band primarily composed of singer, guitarist, and songwriter Ruban Nielson, and bassist Jake Portrait. Nielson, formerly of The Mint Chicks, started the band in 2010. The band's first album was released in 2011 on Fat Possum Records; four subsequent studio albums have been released on Jagjaguwar, the most recent being IC-01 Hanoi (2018).

Album · 2018 · 12 Songs. Like fellow time travelers (and occasional tourmates) Tame Impala, Unknown Mortal Orchestra manage to update the mind-bending sounds of '70s psychedelia in a way that doesn’t feel like a retread. Following the direction set out on 2015’s Multi-Love, Sex & Food dives further into soul and R&B, providing spaced-out takes on Prince ( Hunnybee ), Stevie Wonder ( Ministry of Alienation ), even straight-up disco-pop ( Everyone Acts Crazy Nowadays )

Genre: Neo-Psychedelia. Now four LPs deep, ‘Sex & Food’ is another tasty morsel from Unknown Mortal Orchestra. Showing not only progression and honing of a craft, this record goes from a hulking shredding Goliath to a reflective funk record in the space of a few minutes with wonderfully engrossing results.

My copy came with a signed poster/insert. Not sure if this is the correct release but jeez, what an album this is.Through and through interesting and diverse mix of tracks. One of those albums you cant really skip any track with, just enjoy the adventure!

Okay. I have no idea what is happening. But the second half of this record is literally just the second half of Arctic Monkeys' "Whatever They Say I Am, That's What I'm Not". The first half is completely fine and is the normal UMO setlist, but then it just changed to Arctic Monkeys for no reason. Maybe this has to do with the Vinyl Me Please pressing of their debut, which I coincidentally ordered (it's in the mail), but why??? It's different labels from different decades, I'm just so confused. Does anyone else have this bizarre issue?

Same thing with mine. Kinda neat, though. Don't own anything like this.

Well, this has me second guessing trading up to the VMP exclusive...

Oh, now I can at least know what album it is from. I was very confused when I flipped to the B side. I like Arctic Monkeys, not enough to have bought that album though. Bummed my album is not complete.I bought my copy from their site, not the VMP.

That's really odd. Did you order the Vinyl Me, Please exclusive pressing of this album? Or just the indie version (this release page)? If you're talking about the VMP version, then that would make sense - there must've been some kind of pressing mixup when they were pressing the Arctic Monkeys' album at similar times. But if you have this issue with the indie version... well then that's even more weird.

Lovely light 'baby pink' colour and great packaging overall with a proper inner sleeve. Record sounds great too!

my pink is a very soft coloured pink, not as intense as in the picture above. apart from that anomaly, I enjoy this album a lot. might be their best yet. vinyl sounds really nice! after being let down by jagjaguwar pressings in the past a lot, this one is a winner and keeper!
