For Emma, Forever Ago ‎(LP, Album). I find this pressing to be very powerful-sounding, but certainly not perfect. Overall I was pleasantly surprised though. And the album is of course one of a kind. Reply Notify me Helpful.

For Emma, Forever Ago. Rock Pop Hip hop Alternative Electronic Justin Vernon. Lump Sum. Skinny Love. The Wolves (Act I And II). Blindsided.

For Emma, Forever Ago is the debut studio album by American indie folk band Bon Iver. It was first self-released in July 2007, and later saw wide release on the Jagjaguwar label in February 2008. The album is principally the work of singer-songwriter Justin Vernon. Whilst living in Raleigh, North Carolina, Vernon fell ill with mononucleosis and a liver infection, and grew frustrated with his songwriting and life. He left Raleigh and drove to his father's remote hunting cabin an hour northwest of his hometown, Eau Claire, Wisconsin, hoping to be alone

The biographical details behind the creation of an album shouldn't matter when it comes to a listener's enjoyment, but For Emma, Forever Ago, Justin Vernon's debut as Bon Iver, exudes such a strong sense of loneliness and remoteness that you might infer some tragedy behind it. So, to skirt the rumor mill, here are the particulars, as much or as little as they might apply: In 2005, Vernon's former band DeYarmond Edison moved from Eau Claire, Wisconsin, to North Carolina.

Beautifully balanced, the album moves from one haunting melody to the next, each track building and developing it into a story of lost love and longing. It starts with the slow tones of Flume and progresses to the more upbeat horns in For Emma before dialing back down to end with the poetic lyrics and simple guitar riffs of Re: Stacks. For Emma, Forever Ago plucks at old memories of long-lost loves, and is a rare treat in a fast-paced world, inviting you to slow down, have a cup of tea, and watch the snow fall softly down outside a cabin in the woods. 0 of 0 users found this helpful.

Vernon released Bon Iver's debut album, For Emma, Forever Ago, independently in July 2007. The majority of that album was recorded while Vernon spent three months isolated in a cabin in northwestern Wisconsin. The band later won in 2012 the Grammy awards for Best New Artist and Best Alternative Music Album for their album Bon Iver, Bon Iver

Regardless, the album For Emma, Forever Ago brings back powerful, if unrefined, emotions. The peculiar flavour of heartbreak, with its delicate, absolute and all-consuming awfulness and despair is a memory that I think we can all remember or at least empathise with. And it's at its most beautiful in songs like Skinny Love, re:stacks and Blindsided, (and Beach Baby from the LP, Blood Bank) songs of anger, mourning, shock, pain, loss, sadness, and ultimately, by the end of the album, acceptance and redemption.

Personally, the inner grooves of each side sound exponentially better than the inner. There is some whooshing, yes, but if you get you wax vacuumed the sound quality gets better. It is true, this is not the best pressing. Hopefully with the enormity of his success, this will get an audiophile pressing.

5-star album, 1-star pressing. Agreed with other reviews. Wonderful album, horrible pressing. Sounds identical to the first (regular black) pressing I had. Lots of surface noise on the first side, poor quality. Side-B has less overall, but instead introduces a nasty brushing sound throughout which comes and goes. I rarely play this horrible thing. Sad because the clear vinyl is quite nice. Limited to 1000 crappy copies.

Can you please tell me what exactly Vinyl-Vac is? That'd be great!

Gave my copy a very, very thorough cleaning with vinyl-vac treatment and it played far better than it did initially. Brushing on side-b is still present much of the time but reduced and surface noise greatly improved. EU pressing still quite a bit better so decided to sell this one even though the clear vinyl is lovely.

very bad pressing, miserable sound quality.... sadly....
Brushing/wooshing sound all throughout the B side of this pressing. No better sound quality than any other pressing. Such a shame...

Get the European 4AD release, it dosen't have the "wooshing" on Side B.

My copy finally arrived. Just the same as the original pressing. Very disappointing.

How is the sound quality on this pressing?
