A Quick Fix of Melancholy is the fourth EP by Norwegian experimental collective Ulver. Produced in the Winter of 2002, the EP was issued on 26 August 2003 via Jester Records. A precursor to the album, Blood Inside, A Quick Fix of Melancholy showcases the band's ability to seamlessly combine ambient and electronic music with orchestral elements. This little EP is definitely the best thing Garm has done vocally since 1998, with the classic Ulver album, Themes from William Blake’s Marriage of Heaven and Hell. Garm returns to operatic singing here! Unfortunately, he can only be heard in the first and third songs.

No matter how unique Ulver are, A Quick Fix of Melancholy EP is an unusual EP. Unlike other group's short releases, which tend to be either too experimental for their own good, too incoherent and primitive or too immature, this EP is a gem. It seems that Ulver had everything at the time to record music for a little more than 20 minutes that would be as incredible as some of their longer albums. They must have taken the best ideas at that time that together with songwriting talent, intellect and help from other musicians would create a crazy little masterpiece. The opener Little Blue Bird.

While this 23 minute EP continues in the same path Ulve. When people are trying to look into new music artists, one of the token questions is "What is their most representative album"" Now, for most bands, you can choose a middle point between where they began and where they are now. Then there's Ulver. Nattleite was initially released on Ulver's album Kveldssanger, which is their one completely acoustic folk album the song basically takes what was written and elaborates upon it with the techniques of Ulver's current musical vision. Gave their fans a quick fix of melancholy, gave them a taste of what was to come on Blood Inside, and pleased future fans all in one. Not a quintessential release by any means, but excellent nonetheless.
