The singer, songwriter, and guitarist's 2000 album Eighteen Down (his 18th album) continues his practice of weaving meaty rockers, plaintive ballads, and interesting cover choices together. Stanley, as usual, is backed by superb musicians such as keyboardist Bob Pelander, lead guitarist Danny Powers, and drummer Tommy Dobeck - all three MSB veterans - as well as other friends like vocalist Jennifer Lee and guitarist Marc Lee Shannon.

Michael Stanley (born March 25, 1948 as Michael Stanley Gee) is an American singer-songwriter, musician, and radio personality. Both as a solo artist and with the Michael Stanley Band, his brand of heartland rock was popular in Cleveland and around the American Midwest in the 1970s and 1980s. Michael Stanley Gee graduated from Rocky River High School in 1966. He attended Hiram College on a baseball scholarship and graduated with a bachelor's degree in 1970.

Heartland is an album by the Michael Stanley Band released in 1980  . The band was not fully convinced that they could come back from a fall down the charts, as Greatest Hints only reached number on the Billboard magazine album chart. However, in true Midwestern-minded fashion, the band pressed on without a label and recorded the album that would become their US breakthrough Heartland. If not picked up for option by a new label, the band was going to release the masterwork independently. However, upon completion EMI America Records picked up both the band and the Heartland album.
