Michael Stanley Acoustic.

Michael Stanley's 1998 album Live in Tangiers: The Acoustic Shows includes 30 songs spanning two CDs, and these tunes illustrate the Cleveland rocker's songwriting gifts and a skill for inspired choices of covers of classics like the Beatles' "Help," the Shirelles' "Will You Love Me Tomorrow?" and obscurities like Richard Thompson's "Waltzing's for Dreamers. The majority of songs are either Michael Stanley Band or solo material, including the brand-new songs "Time on My Hands" and "Grownup Love Song. Acoustic-oriented albums like this certainly have their charm, such as an emphasis on melody, but they mostly strip the songs back to what they were like during the songwriting stage. Fully realized band recordings are needed to breathe the maximum amount of life into them, especially when they weren't born in the "middle of the road.

It seems like many blue-collar rock & roll heroes of the 1970s and '80s got their start as folkies, and Cleveland legend Michael Stanley is one of them. His self-titled debut album was released in 1972, and it is a wildly mixed bag of introspective, acoustic folk-rock (a la James Taylor and others of that sensitive singer-songwriter ilk) and simple rock & roll. Stanley's potential was obvious, and this fact drew producer and Tumbleweed Records co-founder Bill Szymczyk, Joe Walsh, and other well-known musicians to the project.

Shuffle: Michael Stanley. Finding his way back Stanely has never slowed down in his decades-long career. He's released nearly two dozen albums and has continued to perform throughout Northeast Ohio, even when the big crowds from the 70s and 80s dwindled. But in December 2017, Stanley was forced to take a long break when he underwent heart surgery. And he said something changed afterwards. Maybe what I am now, physically and emotionally, has no interest in this'. Stanley receives the Cleveland Arts Prize Lifetime Achievement Award Saturday, May 4, at the Beachland Ballroom, with a benefit concert featuring An Acoustic Evening with Michael Stanley & Friends. Notes

In the winter of 1997, Michael Stanley performed acoustic versions of his best loved songs for a select gathering at 'the hall'. Accompanied for much of the set by Bob Pelander on piano and Ed Caner on violin the night showcased the depth and emotion of Stanley's songwriting, the stories behind many of the songs, the exuberance of the trios performance, and a Q & A session with the audience.
