Soused is unlike any previous Scott Walker recording for two reasons. First, it's a complete collaboration with the doom drone duo Sunn 0))); second, it, unlike any of his albums since 1984's Climate of Hunter, requires no previous context for appreciation. While these five tracks are undeniably "heavy," as a whole the music is more conventionally "melodic" than one would anticipate from this pairing. He uses the New Testament narrative of the slaughter of innocents as a metaphor for the endgame of state paranoia. Amid distorted and detuned angular guitar drones are massive throbbing keyboard and drum effects and a lone bell.

Walker, born Noel Scott Engel in Ohio - the Walker Brothers were neither Walkers nor brothers - has lived in London for most of his life now. During our conversation, I asked him about the bell. It’s a strange thing, I said: It becomes blotted out by the other sounds, such that you forget it’s there. The Myth of Scott includes a period of alcoholism (and strangely halfhearted country-pop records) in the 1970s. Titled Soused, the 50-minute album is due out on September 22/23; the first double-LP pressing will be on red vinyl. The album was recorded early this year and features Sunn O)))’s Stephen O’Malley, Greg Anderson, and Tos Nieuwenhuizen. It was produced by Walker and Peter Walsh with assistance from musical director Mark Warman. According to the label, Sunn O))) approached Walker about appearing on 2009?s Monoliths & Dimensions, and while Walker declined, he approached them with music he’d written specifically for a collaboration in 2013  . Any help would be so deeply appreciated!! I can’t bring myself to listen without it being complete.

Brando", the first track of the album, starts off instantaneously with Walker's powerful voice backed by some very regular sounding guitar work. And then, at around the 35 second mark, the first traces of Sunn's crushing drone appears, combined with tension-building percussion, giving the whole song a sort of creeping effect.
