This album shows the band growing an enormous amount as songwriters, focusing on more developed songs and structures. Throughout these five songs, Föllakzoid craft one of the finest kraut-rock record in years. Let them take you on a serpentine journey through their mystical Chilean land. Föllakzoid will be making their US touring debut this spring. Release date: 1/22/2013. London Sessions (feat.

Like the vast expanses which cover their native Chile, Föllakzoid’s full debut album II is a record to get lost in. The void through which II travels is belied by the fact it contains a mere five tunes, although with the shortest clocking in at just under seven minutes, it is a voyage of some substance. It is Howl’s Moving Castle clamped onto a runaway locomotive, hurtling through the blackness.

Iriar Iriar
If on their first excursion Föllakzoid took you into the deepest nether regions of the galaxy, jettisoned your star-cruiser and cut your tether, leaving you to drift off into the unknown, then consider Föllakzoid II as your transcendent journey back from that unknown ... where all things are familiar, yet seen with the perspective and experience of different wider wiser eyes. The album is insanely tight, hypnotic, structured with rigid rhythms and chemical trails that fire like lysergic afterburners in the night, where flashes from supernovas burst a million lightyears from the faceplate of your space suite in a deafening quiet ecstasy. It would be far to easy to refer to Föllakzoid’s first two releases as trance music, and while they certainly could fall into that realm, the music is much too complete, spirited, and ghostly to be defined by that genre [think psychedelic à la Pink Floyd’s ‘Meddle’ without all of the needless sonic ephemera that begin and end each song] where images emerge, morph, intertwine and unfold with a protective breathless slowness.Several of the tracks are rather lengthy, though I would suggest that the band is attempting to conjure those lost recesses of your imagination, creating a topographical soundscape for the cosmos, and your place in it. For your inflight consideration, I would highly recommend that you track these songs, taken from Föllakzoid’sfirst two outings, and see where these take you: Sky Input I, Trees, 9, Rio, 99, Pulsar, and Sky Input II.Review by Jenell Kesler
