Progressive pop is pop music that attempts to break with the genre's standard formula, or an offshoot of the progressive rock genre that was commonly heard on AM radio in the 1970s and 1980s. It was originally termed for the early progressive rock of the 1960s. Some stylistic features of progressive pop include changes in key and rhythm, experiments with larger forms, and unexpected, disruptive, or ironic treatments of past conventions.

This is directly taken from a silver CD called "Progressive Pop Festival". It's one of the oldest Deep Purple audience recordings known to exist. There are just three older ones: Inglewood 1968 (with the "Mark I" line up, released officially on Sonic Zoom), Zürich March 4th or 5th, 1970 and Berlin March 30th, 1970. Sadly the sound quality isn't the best. It's what you might expect from a 1970 average audience recording of a band playing very loud. Line up is Deep Purple "Mark II" consisting of: Ritchie Blackmore - guitar Ian Gillan - vocals Roger Glover - bass guitar Jon Lord - organ Ian Paice - drums.

Atlanta International Pop Festival (1970). The second Atlanta International Pop Festival was a rock festival held in a soybean field adjacent to the Middle Georgia Raceway in Byron, Georgia, from July 3–5, 1970, although it did not finish until after dawn on the 6th. It was the only successor to the first Atlanta Pop Festival, which had been held the previous summer near Hampton, Georgia.
Vi e'piaciuta la stagione del Progressive pop e rock.
A concept album about the lonely, romantic daydreams of a man desperate to escape the drudgery of his daily life, Eldorado weaves its songs into a dense, atmospheric tapestry that is essentially pop-prog. Europe may have been the epicenter of progressive rock during the 1970s, but prog was certainly thriving in the American heartland as well. Pop radio had never heard anything like "Roundabout," Yes' mind-bogglingly unlikely breakout single.
