Yes' second (and least successful) album was a transitional effort; the group trying for a more produced and sophisticated sound through the use of an orchestra. Even so, the results weren't conventional, because the group didn't tone down or turn down its sound. Much of Time and a Word relies on bold, highly animated performances by Bill Bruford, Chris Squire, and Tony Kaye. Additionally, by this time the group was developing a much tauter ensemble than was evident on their first LP, so there's no lack of visceral excitement

Time And A Word is a music studio album recording by YES (Symphonic Prog/Progressive Rock) released in 1970 on cd, lp, vinyl and/or cassette. Even without Wakeman or Howe, this rates easily alongside The Yes Album, Fragile and Close to the Edge as one of the quintessential early prog-rock albums. Not only is it near-impossible to find a flaw, but every song is both great and succinct, yet the album retains an exceptional cohesiveness. As much as I love all the others, I'm tempted to agree.

Before they broke out with The Yes Album, Yes recorded two albums that aren’t particularly remembered as great achievements. Their self-titled debut was however quite good, and very interesting in hindsight of what they’ve gone to achieve later. Not exactly the same can be said about Time and a Word.

Time And A Word Album. No Opportunity Necessary, No Experience Needed.

from album: Time And A Word (1970). There's a word and the word is love and it's right for me, It's right for me, and the word is love. Have you heard of a time that will help get it together again? Have you heard of the word that will stop us going wrong? Well, the time is near and the word you'll hear When you get things in perspective. Spread the news and help the word go round. There's a time and the time is now and it's right for me, It's right for me, and the time is now. There's a word and the word is love and it's right for me, It's right for me, and the word is love
