Benjamin Herman (London, 9 May 1968) is a Dutch jazz musician. He is best known as an alto saxophonist and as leader of the jazz band New Cool Collective. Herman also plays the C-melody saxophone and flute. He also has a radio show on Radio 6 (Netherlands). Herman comes from a family of six children. His twin brother Jonathan works as a director. At the age of eight, Herman and his family moved to the Netherlands.

Benjamin Herman got his first saxophone at the age of twelve. At thirteen he was already playing on the professional club circuit. By the time he was twenty years old he was appearing with different groups around the world and initiating projects of his own. His fame spread beyond jazz circles in the 1990s when he formed the groundbreaking ensemble New Cool Collective. He recorded and toured with amongst others Paul Weller, Dr. John, Tony Allen, Stan Tracey, Misha Mengelberg, Han Bennink, Peter Maffay, programmed several festivals, played all over the globe and worked on numerous personal projects. Amongst many awards and prizes are the prestigious VPRO/Boy Edgar Award and ‘Best Dressed man’ by Esquire magazine. In October Benjamin will be releasing an album with his jazz trio featuring young Dutch soloists.

Herman grew up in Zaandijk, began with 12 years playing the saxophone ( a year later he joined so already professionally ) and studied at the Conservatory in Hilversum, where he "cum laude" graduated 1991 ( and 1989 Wessel Ilcken award as the best young jazz musicians received ) and then still studying at the " Manhattan School of Music" at Dick Oatts In 2005 he recorded the album The Itch with Han Bennink, 2006 The London session with Bart van Lier and Stan Tracey, followed by z ( Dox, 2011). In 2005 he organized the program for "Jazz International Rotterdam ". In 2006 he received the Boy Edgar Prize.
