The Stan Tracey Quartet has been played on NTS in shows including The Pentagon Faceslap, featured first on 22 March 2015. Songs played include Starless And Bible Black and Under Milk Wood. Stan Tracey (30 December 1926 – 6 December 2013) was a British jazz pianist and composer, whose most important influences were Duke Ellington and Thelonious Monk. Tracey's best known recording is the 1965 album Jazz Suite Inspired by Dylan Thomas' "Under Milk Wood", which is based on the BBC radio drama Under Milk Wood, by Dylan Thomas.

When Stan Tracey died in December 2013 the jazz world lost one of it's most talented and inspiring pianists, composers and bandleaders. We pay tribute to him now in this re-broadcasting of a Radio 2 concert which celebrated the 40th anniversary of the original recording of his Under Milk Wood Suite in May 1965. The Suite was quickly recognised as one of the most significant of all British jazz works and was the first British jazz album to go round the world.
