The album was a follow-up to the hugely successful Hot Rocks 1964–1971. When Hot Rocks 1964–1971 proved to be a big seller, there was never any doubt that a successor would follow. However, initially-with Andrew Loog Oldham getting involved-the project was to feature previously unreleased (or more accurately, discarded) material and be titled Necrophilia

When you're anthologizing the Rolling Stones, one of the first things you must accept is that you're doomed to failure. No one album can possibly tell the story of the band that's explored so many different musical avenues and recorded so many memorable songs. Still, the double-disc best of HOT ROCKS, and this, its sequel, come perilously close. This set wisely doesn't attempt to be comprehensive. Instead, it just picks out various gems from different points in the band's development.

After that they were one of the greatest bands live ever. This album is weak compared to the fist Hot Rocks compilation. More Hot Rocks was the controversial successor to the previous compilation, Hot Rocks. It is notable in that it contains a lot of more obscure material by the band, including many of their early cover songs they recorded before the Jagger/Richards songwriting partnership was well established. Some of the songs are great, others are too typical of the period in some ways (as far as the really early stuff goes).
