The UK/European version of THROUGH THE PAST DARKLY is a wonderfully strange and different Rolling Stones compilation, mainly for completists but not without its delightful points for the average listener. What's more, as a memorial to Brian Jones - which was a major part of the album's purpose - it's superior in certain ways to its US counterpart. The Stones' first greatest hits compilation, BIG HITS (HIGH TIDE AND GREEN GRASS), showed up in the USA in late March of 1966, about a month before the US release of their newest album, AFTERMATH, and it successfully summed up their American hits up to that time.
