Not sure how many of you are Prince fans here. my first Prince album was 1999 so in my mind I have always considered him an electronic musician. The new album, 20Ten, has a lot of his early 80s techniques in full effect. It has a very dry sound and is decidedly not overproduced - in fact most of the synths sound like they were recorded live (though there is some evidence of sequencing). With few exceptions, the chicken-scratch guitars, bass pops, synth stabs and drum machine tones sound right out of his '81 joint Controversy. If you are a fan of classic sounding synths and drum machines in a funk context, it's worth seeking out. It's not released in the US yet, but there are obviously ways to track it down.
