The Satanist is the tenth studio album by Polish extreme metal band Behemoth. The album was announced on May 31, 2013 and released on February 3, 2014 through Nuclear Blast and on February 4 in Poland via Metal Blade Records and Mystic Production, respectively. Release was preceded by digital download single "Blow Your Trumpets Gabriel" and 12" EP under the same title released on December 4, 2013.

The Satanist (album). The Satanist was recorded between February and June 2013 in Hertz Studio in Białystok, and RG Studio in Gdańsk, both in Poland, produced by Behemoth, Daniel Bergstrand, and the Wiesławscy Brothers. The album was mixed by Matt Hyde at Hydeaway Studios in Los Angeles, and mastered by Ted Jensen at Sterling Sound in New York City. Release of the album was delayed due to the mixing problems, which were made by Colin Richardson who eventually dropped out from production

The Satanist’ is an album title that is closely affiliated with Nergal’s triumph over leukemia. His denouncement of all things holy was questioned, but he refused to budge and accept any god while potentially looking death in the face. Instead, his contempt for Christianity only grew stronger throughout his battle. Behemoth are a band who have felt comfortable in their own skin since releasing the groundbreaking ‘Demigod’ in 2004. While ‘The Apostasy’ and ‘Evangelion’ don’t slouch, there’s nothing unexpected going on musically. The Satanist’ sees the band shed away that skin as they simultaneously get back to some of their blackened roots while exploring new areas with their most dynamic songwriting since ‘Satanica. A vital, crushing monster of an album, it feels as though the band is digging deep here, tapping into hidden reserves of infernal power to deliver an album of profane and powerful sonic destruction. The album is disarming at first, with opening track "Blow Your Trumpets Gabriel" lulling the listener into a trance with its plodding, doomy riffs before turning on a dime at the halfway point and opening up into a frenzied blast of fractured guitars and explosive blastbeats. From there, the band continues the assault, attacking the listener with track after track of furious death metal.

The Satanist was produced by Behemoth, Wojtek and Slawek Wieslawscy and Daniel Bergstrand at Hertz Studio. The CD was mixed by Matt Hyde and mastered by Ted Jensen at Sterling Sound in New York City. The cover art was painted by renowned Russian painter and occultist Denis Forkas. This album will continually sell and in time will be the band's most well-known in their discography. I am checking out their black metal material, but I have a strong feeling it won't resonate with me like this will for many years to come. Keep up the good work, Behemoth.
