The Satanist is easily one of the best records in the Behemoth discography, but also one of the best metal albums this decade. This album delivers the form of intensity that's disorienting and tough to replicate onto any record. Or consider a donation?

The Satanist’ is an album title that is closely affiliated with Nergal’s triumph over leukemia. His denouncement of all things holy was questioned, but he refused to budge and accept any god while potentially looking death in the face. Instead, his contempt for Christianity only grew stronger throughout his battle. The latter boasts one of the best patented Behemoth style riffs across the band’s discography, though the rest don’t disappoint either. Nergal really shakes things up with his writing by offering some more textured guitar playing that gives an ebb and flow to the album instead of the usual speeding freight train approach.

The Satanist was produced by Behemoth, Wojtek and Slawek Wieslawscy and Daniel Bergstrand at Hertz Studio. The CD was mixed by Matt Hyde and mastered by Ted Jensen at Sterling Sound in New York City. The cover art was painted by renowned Russian painter and occultist Denis Forkas. I would not necessarily say that this album is a continuation of Evangelion, and I do not believe for a second that it was meant to be. Rather, it was meant to be yet another reflection of thoughts, feelings and knowledge on the part of the band themselves.

The album is disarming at first, with opening track "Blow Your Trumpets Gabriel" lulling the listener into a trance with its plodding, doomy riffs before turning on a dime at the halfway point and opening up into a frenzied blast of fractured guitars and explosive blastbeats. From there, the band continues the assault, attacking the listener with track after track of furious death metal.
