Death Magic Doom is the tenth studio album by the Swedish epic doom metal band Candlemass. The working title for this album was "Hammer of Doom", which is the name of the album's second track, but the idea was abandoned due to there being a German festival of the same name. The band recorded it during the autumn of 2008, and was seeking a release on 27 March 2009. However, the album's release was delayed until 3 April 2009; the United States release date for this album was May 5, 2009.

Death Magic Doom"; this three words title is borrowed from Dimmu Borgir, isn't it? The cover artwork is reduced to its essentials and can therefore also not be deemed as a triumph of creativity, although the simple symbolism never fails to have an effect on the beholder. Anyway, the Swedish legend does not need any kind of visual antics. The album shows new variations of the usual trademarks of Candlemass. A dense and majestic sound is the prerequisite. Its flawlessness lays the groundwork for the dark anthems of the band without killing the dynamic of the songs.

But Death Magic Doom is excellent nonetheless, and it could easily go down in history as one of the finest metal releases of 2009 - regardless of the absence of Messiah Marcolin. Some longtime Candlemass fans have a hard time believing that the influential doom metal band can excel without Marcolin on lead vocals, but truth be told, other lead singers have also served Candlemass well along the way (including Johan Längqvist in the beginning, Tomas Vikström in the early '90s, and Björn Flodkvist in the late '90s/early 2000s).

Death Magic Doom doesn't and it also doesn't have half of the staying power that King of the Gray Islands had, I had that album in my CD player for abut six months, Death Magic Doom got boring after just 5 weeks. All in all it's not a bad album, it still has the powerful Candlemass sound and Lowe's vocals are a bit better on this album. 01. " If I Ever Die ": this song has forever ruined the album for me it's basically "Lucifer Rising" with slightly more speed
