Silent Scream is the fifth album by the group Shooting Star. It is the last Shooting Star album to date to feature founding members Gary West and Charles Waltz (who didn't return to the band following its resurrection in 1989), and the last album to feature drummer Steve Thomas until 2006's Circles. It is also the only Shooting Star album to date not to feature bassist Ron Verlin and is the band's only album to feature Norm Dahlor on bass. All tracks written by Van McLain and Gary West.

For their fifth album, Silent Scream, songwriters Gary West (vocals) and Van McLain (guitar) finally produced a collection of tracks worthy of their 1979 self-titled debut. Although on Silent Scream, Shooting Star departs from their classic rock beginnings, the duo came through with a set of strong, memorable melodies and some of the band's most heartfelt material. In addition, McLain and West showed a sense of lyrical maturity and focus which was lacking on previous efforts, and all of the tracks here are inspired and delivered with equal parts emotional intensity and genuine sincerity.

SILENT SCREAM was yet another masterpiece for Shooting Star. Basically bridging the styles of Journey and Foghat, the band came up with their strongest album since HANG ON FOR YOUR LIFE. Many of the songs here have a strong inspirational message, including two from the otherwise forgettable movie UP THE CREEK. Gary West's vocals are a bit like those of Steve Perry, but maintain enough of their own identity so that you know it's still West singing.
