Description

Question: "What is a prophetess? Does the Bible mention any prophetesses?". Answer: A prophetess is a female prophet. The word prophet comes from the Greek word prophetes, which means spokesman.

Comes in a jewel case; contains an 8-page booklet with all lyrics. Track durations do not appear on the release, they are measured by a computer. But hey, it's a nice, mild album with some solid songs in it. Okay, so they push no further than what has already been well-established, but for entertainment in a mellow Gothic field, you could do worse than invest in THE PROPHETESS. Reply Notify me Helpful.

The Prophetess" (5:59). 2. "Pleasure Groove" (6:21). Opener "The Prophetess", for example, combines classic IDM melodies and chords with bustling breakbeat-house drums, while the loved-up and glassy-eyed "Pleasure Groove" wraps bleeping electronics, futurist refrains and dreamy pads around a synth-bass propelled, hip-house style groove. Over on the flipside he dusts down his TB-303 and serves up two contrasting acid tracks: the futurist, Motor City influenced trip that is "Cybord Acid" and the no-nonsense, Chicago jack style intensity of "Cyklone". THE PROPHETESS arrive at their destination to find all other travellers have decided to head the same way. And rather than being disappointed and wishing they had booked elsewhere, they're happy to fight for scraps in a resource-depleted genre. They sit in seats moulded to the shape of SISTERS OF MERCY-shaped butts; they drink from glasses covered in CHRISTIAN DEATH's lipstick and never complain; they sleep in sheets sticky from THE MISSION having slept there first. And why try to compete in a field where progress is taboo and the only way to make your name is by being able to immitate with conviction? God only knows - I've always felt individualism is paramount, and cannot easily comprehend such a lack of imagination is hacking out your place in the world.Luckily for them the music they put across is note perfect and they can put a decent song together - they are really quite good, and thankfully choose not to use that theatrical singing-in-your wellies falsity to the vocals. Which leaves us with a stout, stalwart group weaving tales to their audience. Few songs here would have the strength to stand alone as a successful single, but there is a certain charm to the overall feel of their music. "Avalon" has a certain something to it's creamy smooth chorus which pushes it way ahead of it's neighbouring tracks. The second track has some impressive effects slipped in around the time it was mixed down - panning around a fair bit and containing some rich deep tones, and there are moments of velet luxury throughout the album. But hey, it's a nice, mild album with some solid songs in it. Okay, so they push no further than what has already been well-established, but for entertainment in a mellow Gothic field, you could do worse than invest in THE PROPHETESS.Originally reviewed for Soft Watch.
