The album was recorded over the course of one week in January 2010 and charted in over a half dozen countries. The Place We Ran From Q&A. More Tired Pony albums. The Ghost of the Mountain.

Yet despite the full roster, The Place We Ran From sounds more like a Lightbody solo album than a collaborative project. Buck’s presence is barely felt, his guitar parts robbed of their trademark jangle and confined to anonymous Everyman riffs, and Jacknife Lee keeps the production fairly simple, a move that fails to spice up the album’s watered-down Americana. As the frontman of Snow Patrol, Lightbody usually restricts himself to simple melodies, which take on a greater significance when repeated over and over atop the band’s pounding, straightforward stadium rock.

On September 30, 2010, Tired Pony appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman, performing "Dead American Writers" from their album, The Place We Ran From. Get on the road" was also featured on Showtime drama "Shameless" at the end of "Just Like the Pilgrims Intended" episode. Also, the song played towards the end of the tv show "Pure Genius" episode 6 of season 1 titled "Bunker Hill, We have a Problem". The Place We Ran From is the first album by Tired Pony.

This first offering from Tired Pony, a country-rock supergroup including members of REM and Belle & Sebastian, is in thrall to tempestuous love affairs and the concept of flight. It's tempting, in its preoccupation with trading dull stability for romantic unrest, to read the secret desires of frontman Gary Lightbody, whose day job is with Northern Irish stadium-fillers Snow Patrol. The lyrics may court darkness, but if Lightbody fears alienating his fan-base with a radical departure, he needn't worry.

The results of The Place We Ran From are ultimately pretty mixed. To start with the positives, it is a lot of better than expected and there are some genuinely decent pieces of songwriting. However, to enjoy those you have to wade through a thick fog of filler that either doesn't really go anywhere or just doesn't connect. But the rest of the album doesn't flow so well, and The Place We Ran From winds up amounting to far less than the sum of its parts. 40. By and large The Place We Ran From falls well short of the left-of-centre power and eerie intimacy of Lightbody's heroes' music.
