Golden Opportunities 3 is a free downloadable EP by indie rock band Okkervil River, containing the covers of five songs. It is a sequel to their 2011 album, Golden Opportunities 2. Will Sheff's solo acoustic cover of Don Henley's song The End of the Innocence created controversy after Henley and his lawyers requested the song be removed from the album

The Silver Gymnasium is the seventh album by American indie rock band Okkervil River, released on September 3, 2013. It is the band's first release after signing to ATO Records, and their first album not released through Jagjaguwar. The record is a concept album which takes place in lead-singer Will Sheff's home-town of Meriden, New Hampshire in 1986.

Golden Opportunities 3 consists of five covers of songs by Wang Chung ("Dance Hall Days"), George Benson ("Give Me The Night"), the Brains ("Money Changes Everything," which was popularized by Cyndi Lauper), Roseanne Cash ("Seven Year Ache") and Don Henley ("The End Of Innocence"). Okkervil River are just two months removed from their latest LP, The Silver Gymnasium, which ranks as the 26th best album from all of 2013. Coming six years after Vol. 1 and two years after Vol. 2, it again features an assortment of cover songs. This go-around, mastermind Will Sheff tries his hand at five songs dating back to the 1980s, including Rosanne Cash ( Seven Year Ache ), Don Henley ( The End of the Innocence ), and Cyndi Lauper ( Money Changes Everything ). They’ve also just announced a new leg of US tour dates spanning March and April.

Okkervil River have been quite busy this Q4. With their latest album, The Silver Gymnasium, barely two months old, they're already back with the third instalment of their Golden Opportunities series. Like the previous mixtapes, volume three features Will Sheff et al try their hand at even more covers. With a distinctly 80s feel, this mixtape features covers of a Don Henley solo track, Cyndi Lauper, and Wang Chung's 'Dance Hall Days', among others.
