Mandolinist Jimmy Ryan may have been the driving force behind the Blood Oranges, but bassist Cheri Knight's strong, earthy voice and beautifully melancholic songs marked many of that band's finest moments. On "The Knitter," she takes a confident and much-deserved step into the foreground (she even plays guitar this time around). The songs are an organic mix of strong-willed power chords, country-driven rhythms, and rural acoustic ballads, and the lyrics ring with vivid images of loneliness, anger, emotional confusion, and moments of undeniable love.
Cheri Knight is an American singer, songwriter, and bassist known for her albums (solo and with the band Blood Oranges). After performing in various Northampton-area bands, Cheri Knight was the singer, songwriter and bass player with the alternative country band Blood Oranges. When East Side Digital Records folded, the Blood Oranges amicably disbanded. Cheri then recorded two solo albums during her active music career.

"Down By the Water" is a bit more upbeat than Neil Young's "Down By the River," but would be a good companion piece on this country-flavored toe tapper.
