John Malcolm Brinnin (September 13, 1916 – June 25, 1998) was an American poet and literary critic. John Gould Fletcher, John Malcolm Brinnin, William Carlos Williams, Robert Penn Warren - Contemporary Recordings Of Poets Reading Their Own Poems (LP, Comp, Mono, Tra). Brinnin was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, to two US citizens. When he was still a boy, Brinnin's parents moved to Detroit, Michigan. Brinnin went to the University of Michigan for his undergraduate studies where he won three Hopwood Awards in 1938, 1939 and 1940. He worked his way through school in an Ann Arbor book store

John Malcolm Brinnin published a number of collections of poems. Brinnin's first collection of verse, The Garden is Political, was published in 1942. Subsequent collections of poems include The Lincoln Lyrics (1942), No Arch, No Triumph (1945), The Sorrows of Cold Stone (1951), and Selected Poems of John Malcolm Brinnin (1963). Following the publication of his Selected Poems in 1963, Brinnin was awarded the Centennial Medal for Distinction in Literature by his alma mater, the University of Michigan. Brinnin organized Dylan Thomass reading tours in America between 1950 and 1953, visited Thomas in Wales, and was present when Thomas died (while in New York in 1953 for another reading tour).
William Carlos Williams (September 17, 1883 – March 4, 1963) was an American poet closely associated with modernism and Imagism. He was also a pediatrician and general practitioner of medicine with a medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. In his later years, Williams took on the role of elder statesman and mentored and influenced younger poets

John Malcolm Brinnin. In addition to his work on Thomas, Brinnin published six volumes of his own poetry. Brinnin also wrote scholarly works on T. Eliot, Gertrude Stein, Truman Capote, and William Carlos Williams; and published three personal travelogues. Brinnin taught in a number of universities over his career. At various times, he gave courses at Vassar College, Boston University, the University of Connecticut, and Harvard University. Brinnin died in Key West, Florida on June 25, 1998.
