Robert John Godfrey (born 30 July 1947) is a British composer, pianist and founding member of The Enid. Born on the Leeds Castle estate in Kent, England, Godfrey was educated at Finchden Manor in Tenterden, which was described by its founder George Lyward as a "therapeutic community for adolescents", other alumni of which included Alexis Korner and Tom Robinson.
William Arkle’s easily overlooked. Born in 1924, he gravitated from public school to naval war service to painting, specialising in spiritual subjects. After hanging with Colin Wilson, Arkle wrote The Geography Of Consciousness. It described eight levels, with Higher Man, a God-like state, at the pinnacle. The three pieces – Seascape, Somerset Sketches and Snowdonia – are very English, and very romantic: imagine Delius stripped back to the verge of ambience. They were originally given away to The Stand (The Enid’s fan club) on cassette.

Tracks 1 – 3 written by William Arkle; arranged and performed by Robert John Godfrey. Tracks 4 – 5 written and performed by Robert John Godfrey. Track 6 written by Robert John Godfrey and performed by The Enid. Total running time 73:14. Bill Arkle was a friend of the writer Colin Wilson and attracted a small group of dedicated students. During the nineteen seventies he published two books, was the subject of a local television documentary and collaborated with the progressive rock band The Enid. However, despite this modest celebrity; Arkle was never famous and he remains an obscure figure. The figure whom Arkle most brings to my mind is that other visionary Englishman; William Blake who died in almost equal obscurity but is now recognised as one of the greatest lyrical poets and also an influential illustrator).
Studio Album, released in 1974. Songs, Tracks Listing. Solo work of Robert John Godfrey. The content is the one having to say the introductory chapter of THE ENID exactly. It is romantically classic. make good use of the piano, the keyboard, and the organ. The play of the percussion instrument is an orchest.
