Thinks: School Stinks is the album released by British pop band Hotlegs. The album, featuring the band's hit single "Neanderthal Man", was recorded at Strawberry Studios in Stockport near Manchester and engineered by the studio's co-owners, Eric Stewart and Peter Tattersall. Kevin Godley, in a 1976 interview, said the album included the songs and ideas that he and Lol Creme had intended recording in 1969 with entrepreneur Giorgio Gomelsky.

Few people would care about Hotlegs today had the trio (plus the returning Gouldman) not subsequently reinvented themselves as 10cc, and it is reassuring to note that much of that band's instant charm and excitement is already present amid Thinks: School Stinks. The 12-minute "Suite . actively fore- and overshadows Godley-Creme's next attempt at elongating their artform, The Original Soundtrack's similarly protracted "Une Nuit a Paris," while the aforementioned "Um Wah" packs a wildly panning guitar solo to die for.

Hotlegs was a short-lived English band best known for its hit single "Neanderthal Man" in 1970. The band consisted of Eric Stewart, Kevin Godley, Lol Creme and – briefly – Graham Gouldman. In 1972 the band was relaunched as 10cc.
Thinks: School Stinks is the first album released by British pop band Hotlegs. The cover, designed by Kevin Godley and Lol Creme, depicted a scratched school desk, a concept that was repeated two years later on School's Out (1972) by Alice Cooper. Thinks: School Stinks was released in some countries with an alternative cover. The album failed to chart. Stewart, also interviewed in 1976, said Thinks: School Stinks had presented a problem because it was so different from "Neanderthal Man": "It was totally alien to what people were expecting from us. It was a good record, a little ahead of its time. It was similar to the things we are doing now.
Thinks: School Stinks is the sole album by pre- 10CC band Hotlegs. Graham Gouldman was not a part of Hotlegs as he was working in New york as a staff songwriter for Super K Productions ( Which all future members of 10CC had written music for). Hotlegs was just another one of Eric Stewart, Lol Creme and Kevin Godley& band names under which they put out singles in the early seventies. But Hotlegs was a bit different as The Neanderthal Man single became a worldwide hit and sold more than two million copies. With that success in mind Hotlegs set out to record a full album.
