Basses Loaded is an album by the Melvins released on June 3, 2016 through Ipecac Recordings. This release features every member that has been a part of the band over the previous decade, centered around their bass players. Steven Shane McDonald, of Redd Kross, makes his debut with the Melvins, while Nirvana co-founder Krist Novoselic makes a guest appearance.

In some ways, Basses Loaded is the logical culmination of this ongoing musical-chairs policy. Crover and Osborne's preference for lineup fluidity is rooted in the 2005 departure of longtime bassist Kevin Rutmanis (Cows, Tomahawk). So it follows that Basses Loaded features six different people on bass, most of whom have participated in some form of album cycle with the band. Crover himself plays bass on four tunes, leaving the drum duties on those songs to original Melvins skinsman Mike Dillard, who returned to record and tour behind the 2013 album Tres Cabrones

Basses Loaded is due out June 3 via Ipecac Recordings, and it features six different bassists. Osborne and company recruited Redd Kross’ Steve McDonald, Butthole Surfers’ Jeff Pinkus, Fantômas’ Trevor Dunn and Novoselic for their latest full-length. In an interview with Rolling Stone, the ever plain-spoken Osborne revealed the song with Novoselic was the result of a Melvins-Nirvana collaboration that never came to be: It was before played with Paul McCartney.
