Anyway, "Freak Puke" is a great Melvins album. This time out, they bill themselves as "Melvins Lite" because Jared and Coady aren't on this album, and Trevor Dunn is manning a stand up bass (playing with no amp of any kind) to cover the low end. Don't be fooled by the "Lite" part of the title, though, this is not a sequel to "The Bootlicker" and fans will have plenty of loud guitars, heavy drums and snarling vocals to enjoy. Its also worth noting that the emphasis on this album is on songs. There is very little noise mongering on display (though a Melvins album will always have some) and what is here doesn't stay too long. In a lot of respects you could compare "Freak Puke" to "Nude With Boots" given the surplus of 70's rock riffage on display and the tight focused songs. Also worth noting is the cover of Wings "Let Me Roll I. Its a pretty faithful cover and its pretty awesome.

The Melvins unveil the latest twist in their 29-year history with Melvins Lite, an additional incarnation of the band that finds founders Buzz Osborne and Dale Crover partnering with Trevor Dunn (Mr. Bungle, Fantômas, Tomahawk), one of rock and jazz's top bass players, performing on both a traditional and upright bass in a wide range of bands and as. a freelance musician. The Melvins have a long history of mixing up our line-ups and I think that's what has kept us relevant for so long,' explains Osborne

The Melvins are planning to release a new outing dubbed Freak Puke through Ipecac on June 05th. The effort will be released under the groups ‘Melvins Lite‘ moniker, which sees the band with a retooled lineup of King Buzzo, Dale Crover and Trevor Dunn (Secret Chiefs 3, ex-Mr. The group, complete with Dunn, are apparently planning to hit the road in support of the effort this summer.
