Album · 1958 · 20 Songs. Gazette, Vol. 1 Pete Seeger.
Selecting material mostly from the pages of Sing Out! magazine, Pete Seeger here performs 20 "contemporary topical and political songs," as Folkways Records head Moses Asch puts it, with "contemporary" defined as the 25 years leading up to the album's 1958 release date. Actually, many of them are very contemporary, but for touchstones, Seeger includes a number of songs from the pen of Woody Guthrie, starting with the tribute to "Pretty Boy Floyd," the Oklahoma outlaw who was killed by Federal agents in October 1934, as newspaper reports reprinted in the album's booklet document.
