All lyrics from Cross Purposes album, popular Black Sabbath songs with tracklist and information about album.

Cross Purposes is the 17th studio album by English rock band Black Sabbath, released in January 1994. Dehumanizer saw the reunion of Mob Rules-era Black Sabbath, but, after the tour, Ronnie James Dio (vocals) and Vinny Appice (drums) departed. They were replaced by former Sabbath vocalist Tony Martin and former Rainbow drummer Bobby Rondinelli. Geezer Butler remained with the group, although he would depart later in the year again before the recording of the Forbidden album.

The title was called Cross Purposes. In the words of Joe, The level was shaped like a cross, and since this album was current when the work was being done, it seemed like a logical name at the time. Geezer Butler has made statements that this album was not supposed to be released as a Black Sabbath album, although others on the album dispute that. The song Cardinal Sin was originally called Sin, Cardinal Sin, but a printing error left the first Sin off, and the mistaken name was just used going forward

Cross Purposes Live is a boxed set released by the British heavy metal band Black Sabbath in 4 April 1995. The set comprised a live album on CD and a VHS tape of a concert recorded at the Hammersmith Apollo in London on Wednesday 13 April 1994, recorded on the band's tour for their Cross Purposes album. The tour was notable for being the first time The Wizard had been played since early 1971, when Ozzy Osbourne was still lead vocalist. It is Black Sabbath's only live album with singer Tony Martin

Black Sabbath's album Cross Purposes was the first album recorded after vocalist Ronnie James Dio's second exit from the band, and marks the return of Tony Martin as singer. Geezer Butler stayed on as bassist and the band recruited former Rainbow drummer Bobby Rondinelli. Cross Purposes is the only studio album recorded by this lineup, and in my opinion the album is something of a mixed bag. Not terrible by any means, but I wouldn't call it a classic Sabbath release

Forgotten Hard Rock Albums: Black Sabbath, "Cross Purposes". Updated on June 21, 2019. At the dawn of the 1990s, Black Sabbath was approaching something that resembled stability. After a decade of near-constant lineup changes and turmoil, guitarist and sole original member Tony Iommi had successfully re-built a strong "new" Sabbath lineup with vocalist Tony Martin, drummer Cozy Powell and bassist Neil Murray. Albums like 1989's Headless Cross and 1990's Tyr may not have been setting the sales charts on fire, but they were laying a solid foundation for Sabbath to build upon
