David Bromberg Band ‎– You Should See The Rest Of The Band. Label: Fantasy ‎– L 37165. Format: Vinyl, LP, Album.

After recording two albums of unruly funk with the David Bromberg Band, the mercurial Bromberg hit the reset button with 1978’s aptly titled My Own House. Featuring only acoustic guitar, banjo, fiddle, and Bromberg’s warped and vulnerable voice, the album is a handsome vision of traditional folk music that doesn’t feel traditional at all. Maybe that’s because he brings the same attitude of tenderness and patience to covers of Phil Spector’s To Know Him Is to Love Him and Ray Charles’ Georgia on My Mind as he does the 17th-century Celtic instrumental Sheebeg and Sheemore.

The second album included on this disc couldn't be more of a contrast: You Should See the Rest of the Band is a live recording with a large and very definitely electric band. David Bromberg the rock & roll bandleader is much more inclined toward horn-driven R&B ("Key to the Highway," "Sharon"), although he does pull out the fiddle for a high-octane romp through a medley of traditional tunes at the end of the show. His singing, while not bad, isn't really worth mentioning.

Live acoustic blues from a master. You either love David Bromberg or you don't. He is a National Treasure but he is also an acquired taste for some. This musical genius is doing his acoustic old, time style blues from his "My Own House/You Should See the Rest of the Band" combined cd. The cd was released in 1999 from two albums released in 1978. This is a gem! Enjoy!!! Check out the Bromberg official site.
