Even Better Than the Real Thing" is the second song on U2's 1991 album Achtung Baby. It was released as the album's fourth single on 8 June 1992. Even Better Than the Real Thing" originated from a chorus guitar riff that the Edge composed in Los Angeles during the Rattle and Hum sessions. A demo of the song, called "The Real Thing," was recorded at STS Studios during the same session in which "Desire" was recorded.

Multiple videos for Even Better than the Real Thing were filmed and released. The most widely-known version was directed by Kevin Godley in January, 1992 in London. This version won an MTV Video Music Award in 1992 for Best Special Effects. The vinyl box set included the album as well as two 12-inch vinyl remix compilations, which included Even Better than the Real Thing (The Perfecto Mix) and Even Better Than the Real Thing (Fish Out of Water Remix). The 6-CD Über Deluxe and Super Deluxe sets included Even Better than the Real Thing (The Perfecto Mix), Lady with the Spinning Head (Extended Dance Mix) and Even Better Than the Real Thing (V16 Exit Wound Remix) on the Über Remixes disc; Even Better Than the Real Thing (Trance Mix) and Even Better Than the Real Thing (Apollo 440 Stealth Sonic.

Even Better Than the Real Thing is the title of a number of Irish charity albums recorded on The Ray D'Arcy Show on Today FM and released over a number of years for the Irish Christmas market. The albums featured Irish artists performing covers of U2 songs until 2005 when the series was temporarily discontinued, although in 2008 Even Better Than the Disco Thing was released featuring covers of disco songs instead. The title is taken from the U2 song "Even Better Than the Real Thing".
