Notet Live at the Bop Shop. Paul Alva Smoker (b. 1941, Muncie, Indiana) (d. May 14, 2016 - Rochester, New York) was an American jazz trumpeter. Smoker grew up in Davenport, Iowa, and moved to Chicago to play professionally. He worked there in the 1960s, playing with Bobby Christian among others.

The Paul Smoker Notet debuted in 2003 at Tonic in New York City, and includes Smoker, guitarist Steve Salerno, bassist Drew Gress, and drummer Phil Haynes. Notet recordings include Live At the Bop Shop, Cool Lives, and the new Landings.
