Reign in Blood is the third studio album by American thrash metal band Slayer, released on October 7, 1986 by Def Jam Recordings. The album was the band's first collaboration with producer Rick Rubin, whose input helped the band's sound evolve.

Reign in Blood was well received by both critics and fans, and was responsible for bringing Slayer to the attention of a mainstream metal audience. Kerrang! magazine described the record as the heaviest album of all
1986's Reign in Blood is the quintessential Slayer album. Or is it? A roundtable of Loudwire writers debated that question, and - without giving away anyone's ages - we learned that those who were alive in '86 rate the album differently than those who weren't. In other words, if you felt the album's impact upon its release, it's impossible to separate that impact from how you feel about the album. Reign in Blood still kicks ass in 2018, but in 1986, it signaled the birth of a new subgenre: extreme metal. The only way to recreate that impact would be to lock your pop-music fan friends in a room and crank Angel of Death at full volume. Then you can watch the blood drain from their faces.
From the press: SLAYER - REIGN IN BLOOD Reign in Blood is what it is considered to be Slayer's master creation, and also the best thrash album of all times. Reign in Blood was an album way advanced for the time it came out. It was geniously composed, and purposely blasphemous. Angel of Death is probably the most famous song by them, a metal anthem for metal heads. Slayer's lyrics have always been blasphemous and diabolic - and gory too, but in Angel of Death's lyrics we can see some very geniously written lyrics - Angel of Death's lyrics talking about Auschwitz, the infamous concentration camp where Jewish people were killed and worked. This song is sooooo good!

Widely considered the pinnacle of speed metal, Reign in Blood is Slayer's undisputed masterpiece, a brief (under half an hour) but relentless onslaught that instantly obliterates anything in its path and clears out just as quickly. Producer Rick Rubin gives the band a clear, punchy sound for the first time in its career, and they largely discard the extended pieces of Hell Awaits in favor of lean assaults somewhat reminiscent of hardcore punk (though distinctly metallic and much more technically demanding)
