Funkentelechy Vs. the Placebo Syndrome. Funkentelechy vs. the Placebo Syndrome is a funk album by Parliament, released in 1977 (see 1977 in music). It is a loose concept album warning the listener of falling into the "Placebo Syndrome," which according to George Clinton is consumerism, and listening to disco music, which he saw as a simplification of funk music in attempt to gain commercial success.
His lead vocal is both playful and passionate: Otis Redding as gunslinger philosopher. While Funkentelechy is no exception. Clinton’s production work here is atypically light and clear. Michael Hampton’s expert guitar solos quiver starkly in the mix, and Clinton even strives to make his own lyrics intelligible - not coherent maybe, but intelligible.
Funkentelechy" is a song by the funk band Parliament. It is the fourth track on the group's 1977 album Funkentelechy Vs. the Placebo Syndrome and was released as a two-part single in 1978. Part 1 peaked at number 27 on the . R&B Singles chart. The song's title is a play on the philosophical concept of entelechy. It reuses samples from previous albums, notably the Mothership Connection and Funkentelechy vs. Motor Booty Affair is an album by funk band Parliament.
