Hold Time is the sixth proper studio album from M. Ward, released on February 17, 2009. Hold Time is the follow-up to his 2006 album Post-War and its companion EP To Go Home in 2007. Hold Time includes guest performances by Jason Lytle of the band Grandaddy, Lucinda Williams, Tom Hagerman of DeVotchKa, and She & Him co-contributor Zooey Deschanel.
Hold Time does, in fact, feel timeless, a musical wanderer's dusty, train-hopping tour through folk, blues, and country. 82. Hold Time marks Ward's third, and best chance to skip the three-peat pattern for sneaking under the radar with his name near the to. .80. His music makes you think slowly, all the better to ponder the ample fruits of this profound album.

Hold Time, the followup to Post-War, was released on Merge in February 2009. After another multi-year break from solo recording, M. Ward released his eighth album, More Rain, on March 4, 2016 on Merge and Bella Union. Ward began working on More Rain in 2012, initially experimenting with layering his own vocals to create a doo-wop record. lang, Neko Case, and others, the sound of the album went in a different direct, described as "true gotta-stay-indoors, rainy-season record that looks upwards through the weather while reflecting on his past.
Album · 2009 · 14 Songs. M. Ward fleshes out his timeless Americana with languid slices of cozy, homespun pop on this album. His shrewd life philosophies tumble out with Dylan-esque dexterity on hushed acoustic groovers like "For Beginners" and "Jailbird. But he sounds just as at ease translating other people's words-with other people-on the breezy Buddy Holly cover "Rave On," with She & Him partner Zooey Deschanel, and on Don Gibson's weeping lament "Oh Lonesome Me," which Ward cushions in lush alt-country as Lucinda Williams coats it with her riveting rasp.
HOLD TIME as a whole is a stellar album, though Ward truly excels at the rockabilly: "Never Had Nobody Like You" and "Jailbird" especially, though his masterful reworking of "Oh Lonesome Me" completely reinvents the song; the new melody is as haunting and timeless as Gibson's lyrics. HOLD TIME is an album meant to be listened to closely and carefully; it's homage to the past, but also (hopefully) a glimpse of the future of music as well. 2 people found this helpful. This Is not by any means a collection of songs! It's a totally put together piece of work.
