This all instrumental James Brown LP has a sweet slow groove to it, a stark contrast to his more hectic King LPs. The horn section is great as always with a hint of verb backing the whole band. It all comes together well on side 2 finishing up with a low swinging Song For My Father. Not all tracks are well on Yesterday & Today, but it certainly is a great little detour in Brown's massive discography. Recommended for fans of small organ jazz combos like Jimmy Smith, Booker T, and Brother Jack McDuff.
