James Brown, Pee Wee Ellis.
20 All-Time Greatest Hits! James Brown. James Joseph Brown (May 3, 1933 – December 25, 2006) was an American singer, songwriter, dancer, musician, record producer and bandleader. A progenitor of funk music and a major figure of 20th century popular music and dance, he is often referred to as the "Godfather of Soul". In a career that lasted 50 years, he influenced the development of several music genres. Brown began his career as a gospel singer in Toccoa, Georgia.
20 All-Time Greatest Hits! is a compilation album by James Brown containing 20 of his most famous recordings. Released by Polydor in 1991 as a single-disc alternative to the Star Time box set, it features songs from the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. 16 of the songs from the album had previously topped the US R&B charts. The album itself peaked at number 99 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart after its release
While Brown's 30-track, 40-track, and even 50-track collections are excellent choices as well, this fine hits package is the best one for Brown neophytes looking for a way in. Covering his prime stretch from the late '50s through the early '70s, 20 All-Time Greatest Hits! includes early R&B milestones ("Please, Please, Please"), epochal '60s sides ("Papa's Got a Brand New Bag, Pt. 1"), and latter-day funk classics ("Papa Don't Take No Mess, Pt. 1").
100 Greatest Soul Albums. Criteria: Soul music started in the early 1960s and was around into the 1970s and later, although by the mid-1970s it had pretty much been replaced by funk and disco. Albums that are mainly funk or disco, rather than soul, were not considered for this list. These albums were chosen and ranked based on their initial and lasting popularity, influence, impact, and overall stature in soul music circles. James Brown & The Famous Flames 86. The Soul Of Ike & Tina Turner - Ike & Tina Turner 87. Pain In My Heart - Otis Redding 88.
