The Best of the Band is the first greatest hits package by Canadian-American rock group The Band. Featuring ten tracks taken from six of their first seven albums (not counting 1974's Before the Flood or 1975's The Basement Tapes, both with Bob Dylan), it featured two tracks from the first, second, third and seventh albums, one each from the fourth and fifth, rounded out by the early 1975 single "Twilight". All tracks written by Robbie Robertson, except where stated.
The band released their first released studio album Sigh No More (2009). Their debut peaked at number two on the UK Albums Chart and the Billboard 200 in the US. Their second and third studio album Babel and Wilder Mind both debuting at number one in the UK and US, the former becoming the fastest-selling rock album of the decade. The band received eight total Grammy nominations for Babel and won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year. They also won the Brit Award for Best British Group in 2013. Listen to Mumford & Sons on this site.
The British release of Best of the Band featured a different track listing, replacing "Tears of Rage", "Don't Do It", and "It Makes No Difference" with "Rag Mama Rag", "Time to Kill", "Ain't Got No Home", and "I Shall Be Released". An Australasian 1991 release of The Best of The Band has extra tracks to what is on the British and American versions. It has 20 tracks in all with the addition of "Accross the Great Divide," "When You Awake," "Rocking Chair," "The Promised Land,".
Look For Me (Homecoming Picnic Album Version). Without The Lord (Homecoming Picnic Album Version). Farther Along (Homecoming Picnic Album Version). The group was formed in 1980 on the spur of the moment before a concert with the song "First Day In Heaven" with Bill Gaither & Gary McSpadden of the Bill Gaither Trio, and Steve Green & Lee Young of the backup singers. Lee Young was dismissed in 1982, and Jon Mohr was hired as the new bass singer. They then recorded the album, Passin' The Faith Along. Later, tenor Steve Green left and Larnelle Harris was hired. This group cut the New Point Of View album before Mohr left.

The Band is ranked number 131 in the overall artist rankings with a total rank score of 27,495. Members who like this artist also like: The Rolling Stones, The Beatles and Neil Young. AUTOGRAPHED COPY The Beau Brummels VOL2 Lp signed by the entire original band. The Band are epic - grossly overlooked in the reputation of the 60s and 70s. They trump CSN and the Byrds, easily. Top playing, top songwriting, top melody.
The Band’s second album might have been called America. Robbie Robertson and Levon Helm were both partial to that grandiose moniker-years later, it was one of the only things they still agreed on. Harvest was also considered, as the record was conceived as a concept album about the South that begins with the promise of spring and ends with the make-or-break finality of the fall, when a farmer pleads for deliverance from financial ruin in King Harvest (Has Surely Come). They were children hanging out in the world’s coolest treehouse, best pals who spent weeks trading jokes and shooting pool, and then imbuing their freewheeling spirit into the ultimate hang out album that they happened to make in the process. That sense of togetherness, and the possibility of a counter-culture in which each person is crucial and valued as such, is what makes The Band so seductive.
