Greatest Hits is a compilation album by the Canadian-American rock group The Band. The album was released in conjunction with remastered versions of the group's first four albums. It draws very heavily from these records, with thirteen of the eighteen tracks selected from Music from Big Pink, The Band, Stage Fright and Cahoots. All tracks composed by Robbie Robertson unless otherwise noted. John Simon - producer (tracks 1-8). The Band - producers (tracks 9-18).

This collection is dedicated to the memory of John Philip Sousa and to the superb musicians of the United States Marine Band who continue to celebrate his tradition. Known as "the President's Own," the . Marine Band has played for every inauguration since Thomas Jefferson. Today they give 450 public performances each year, plus 200 more at the White House. I had another "Sousa's Greatest Hits" album (a different choice of "greatest" of course). That album was good, but it was period recordings, with a fair amount of background noise, plus the performances, while stirring, were not that crisp. Marine Band defines "crisp" - the playing is excellent, as you might expect from the Marine Corps. This is a good collection of Sousa's hits - not all-encompassing, but it is hard to quibble with the selections.
