The Wedding Present are a British indie rock group originally formed in 1985 in Leeds, England, from the ashes of the Lost Pandas. The band's music has evolved from fast-paced indie rock in the vein of their most obvious influences The Fall, Buzzcocks and Gang of Four to more varied forms. Throughout their career, they have been led by vocalist and guitarist David Gedge, the band's only constant member.

A Wedding Present gig is characterized by melodic, sometimes fast chopping guitar, songs that tell stories, and a voice understated in the mix, yet no less passionate for all that. Oh, and remember to listen out for Gedge’s sharp one-liners between songs. Went to see The Wedding Present at the 02 Academy Islington last night and they were awesome. Ostensibly a 30 year celebration of their Singles album Tommy, there was a sprinkling of other tracks and frontman David Gedge was on fine form as was the band generally. Great atmosphere and sound (had been very disappointed with the sound levels at a gig the previous week at another venue), so well done Islington!

An impressive set of The Wedding Present reissues will arrive this fall, a campaign that sees the first decade of David Gedge and C. s catalog expanded into 3CD/1DVD sets brimming with extras that include non-album singles, B-sides, BBC sessions, live concerts, music videos and much more.
