Gary Burton & Keith Jarrett is an album by vibraphonist Gary Burton and pianist Keith Jarrett with Sam Brown, guitar, Steve Swallow, bass, and Bill Goodwin, drums, recorded in 1970 and released on the Atlantic label in 1971. Jarrett also plays saxophone on this recording.

Vibraphonist Gary Burton and pianist Keith Jarrett (along with guitarist Sam Brown, bassist Steve Swallow, and drummer Bill Goodwin) play four Jarrett originals plus Steve Swallow's "Como en Vietnam. Elements of pop music, rock, country, and the jazz avant-garde are used in the mixture of styles and the results are quite logical.

Two of vibraphonist Gary Burton's albums from 1969-1970 are reissued in full on this single CD. Burton teams up with pianist Keith Jarrett for five numbers (including four of Jarrett's originals) in 1970, using a quintet that also features guitarist Sam Brown, bassist Steve Swallow, and drummer Bill Goodwin. The other session has more of an avant-country flavor, with Burton, Swallow, and Goodwin joined by guitarist Jerry Hahn and violinist Richard Greene; Michael Gibbs and Swallow contributed most of the obscurities

Jarrett and Steve Swallow wrote all the music and there are some good tunes. My guess is that Burton set the tone for this recording. Unfortunately the tinny guitar sound of Sam Brown dates the music. A lot of jazz guitarists around this time sounded awful in comparison with their rock contemporaries.
