The Best of Budgie was the fourth compilation album by Welsh rock band Budgie, released in 1997. The compilation contained tracks only from the third, fourth and fifth studio albums, much like the 1975 compilation of the same name. All tracks written by Burke Shelley and Tony Bourge, except where noted. Burke Shelley - bass guitar and vocals (all tracks). Tony Bourge - guitar (all tracks). Ray Phillips - drums (tracks 1, 2 & 7). Pete Boot - drums (tracks 4, 8 & 10).

Sounds criticized the album as being somewhat nondescript, but praised it for having "a lot of good natured foot-tapping music" and concluded "I certainly find it infinitely preferably to Black Sabbath, and I have the feeling that Budgie might develop into something a lot more interesting.

Budgie sounds to me like a Zeppelin/Sabbath cover band that decided to write some original tunes and record them in their garage. Good players, but not sure about the Rush comparisons. Budgie (the album) isn't the band's best work but it's a pretty good starting point. They were still sharpening their beaks at this point (I resisted the urge to mention cuttlefish.
