Teenage Fanclub : Songs from Northern Britain,альбом, рецезия, трек-лист, mp3, тексты песен.

Songs From Northern Britain. Released July 21, 1997. Songs From Northern Britain Tracklist. 1. Start Again Lyrics. Songs From Northern Britain Q&A. What have the artists said about this album? According to Norman Blake in 2016: I think we had been on a bit of a roll at this point. The title of Songs From Northern Britain was kind of a joking reference to Britpop, and everybody who thought we were part of that scene, whatever that was. In 2016 Blake added: I think we felt outside of that. We weren’t a London band and the whole Britpop thing was very London-centric really. Even Oasis, who were from Manchester, lived in London. And we didn’t feel like we were part of it. It had nothing to do with Scottish independence. We just thought it sounded funny.

Teenage Fanclub emerged from the Glasgow C86 scene. Their sound is reminiscent of Californian bands like the Beach Boys and the Byrds, and their seventies counterparts Big Star. Originally a noisy and chaotic band, their first album A Catholic Education, released in 1990 on Paperhouse, is largely atypical of their later sound, with the possible exception of "Everything Flows"  . Grand Prix, Teenage Fanclub's fifth album, was both a critical and commercial success in the UK, becoming their first top ten album. In the United States however the band failed to regain the ground that Thirteen had lost them. Songs from Northern Britain followed Grand Prix and built on the former's success The follow-up album, Howdy!, released on Columbia Records in the UK after the demise of Creation, continued the sound of Songs from Northern Britain.

Teenage Fanclub were touted as the next big thing for three minutes after its 1991 major-label debut, Bandwagonesque. That album is still the band's best-a sly, effortless approximation of Big Star, capturing most of that band's charm with only a fraction of the emotional turmoil. Six years and a few music trends later, Teenage Fanclub were still writing and singing sunny, optimistic tunes that sound great blasting from a car stereo.

But rest assured that 'Songs From Northern Britain' excels in the quality department too. Aside from the aforementioned tracks, there are a couple more truly classic tunes waiting in the wings. Take The Long Way Round' has a bouncing punk riff that propels it onward (a riff that was stolen by Idlewild for 'As If I Hadn't Slept') and once again has a delightful feel of travel and summer coursing through it's lyricism ("Sometimes you look for inspiration, Sometimes you underline destinations").

Such a beautiful melodic album this, probably my favourite Fannies release. The vinyl is a big improvement over the CD and well worth owning for lovers of this masterpeice. It falls short of being a 5 stars for SQ, it still sounds a little congested and closed in. At a guess I would say this is the recording rather than the mastering.
