Drums and Wires is the third studio album by English band XTC, released on 17 August 1979, on the Virgin record label. The album marked the debut of Dave Gregory, who joined the band as lead guitarist following keyboardist Barry Andrews' departure in early 1979. Gregory went on to remain with the group up until 1998, during the recording of Apple Venus Volume 1.

Recorded at The Townhouse Studios in Goldhawk Road, London. Digitally remastered at Metropolis Mastering during November and December 2000. Track 13 was a non-album single A side. Tracks 14 and 15 were on a free 7" single given away with the original '79 album release. Track 7 is misspelled 'Reel By Reel' on the tray insert. Glass mastered by EMI Uden according to matrix pattern and mastering SID code. This is a repress probably made between 2004 and 2008 by Mediamotion, according to mould SID code etched on disc.

Drums and Wires is a must-have for anybody who is only discovering the band. Believing in XTC - and recognizing the two Primus-covered songs that introduced me to the band in the first place - led me to Drums & Wires and now I just keep getting up to move the needle back to this song. Five times might be a bit much, but it’s where we’re at now. I don’t know if it’s a sense of nostalgia or reverence that makes it seem that elder music statesmen are better at providing songs with raw power (reference pretty much intended) than contemporary musicians, but the rate seems to be higher.
