90 €. Truly, this album is amazing. Most of you have found out about Finntroll from the amazing work that is Nattfodd probably; then eventually stumbled upon this treasure.

The press release calls Jakens Tid "trollish hoedown metal," which is to say that Finntroll incorporates some of the folk- and polka-based musics indigenous to their native Finland into their Wagnerian death metal. The fusion of styles apparently began as a drunken experiment, and it's hard to tell whether the resulting humor was intended or not.

The album is best enjoyed by someone who either knows Swedish, or has a translation handy. There are a few English translations of Finntroll lyrics on the internet; however, many of those are rather awkward and inaccurate. But even if you don’t have the lyrics, the album is still a great ‘background’ listen. The melodies are pervasively provocative throughout the album, and several tracks are very well orchestrated. Their second album, Jaktens Tid, was released in 2001. The following summer, the band had their first time playing festivals in Finland and other countries. The year after the release of the album Jaktens Tid proved to be a misfortune for Finntroll: some tours had to be cancelled, and vocalist Jämsen had to retire from the band due to a viral-based tumor in his vocal cords which could not be removed surgically; he retired after the release of the EP Visor Om Slutet - Jaktens tid.
