The band that became WRITING ON THE WALL began as Scottish soul band the JURY in the mid-sixties, but transforming themselves like so many of their contemporaries into a psychedelic-tinged group along with their renaming in 1968. The band issued but one official studio album, the 1969 release 'The Power of the Picts'.

Writing on the Wall were a Scottish rock band of the late 1960s and early 1970s who became a popular live act in the United Kingdom. The group originally formed as the Jury, changing their name to Writing on the Wall in early 1968. The band's manager, Brian Waldman, moved the group to London and let the band perform at his club, the Middle Earth They eventually recorded their lone album, The Power of the Picts, for Waldman's Middle Earth label.

The Power of the Picts was released in 1969 on a small label called Middle Earth Records (the label only had something like five albums released in its very short life), so you know right the original LP isn't easy to come by. I believe the label was named after the famous London nightclub, and I guess the label signed those bands who performed at Middle Earth the bigger labels wouldn't touch (as many major acts had played in the club too).
