Blonde on Blonde's 1969 album is from the period when progressive rock, or more so pop, was new and fresh. Contrasts is indeed an album that is characteristic of the music that was being bandied around the music press in 1969 as progressive, not the preposterous entity that it became.

Blonde On Blonde (2). Contrasts. Any band who flashes onto the musical scene at the tail end of the Summer of Love with as stunning a gatefold album jacket as this, adorns themselves with with the title of Dylan’s 1966 earth changing release, and covers The Beatles’ Eleanor Rigby, had better have something masterful to say. Sadly, Blonde On Blonde where not the new Jimi Hendrix, nor were they a future image of The Incredible String Band, Cream, or even Pink Floyd.

Ride With Captain Max, Blonde On Blonde - Contrasts (1969) - 03. No Sleep Blues, Blonde On Blonde - Contrasts (1969) - 06. Mother Earth, Blonde On Blonde- Contrasts 1969 - I Need My Friend, Blonde On Blonde - Contrasts (1969) - 02. Spinning wheel, а также рингтоны на звонок и все новые треки.

Only for completionists (0%). The inclusion of three cover versions, two written by the Incredible String Band's Robin Williamson plus a Beatles song, betrays a band still unsure of its own song writing talents, but performance wise little is left behind in the cupboard. To be fair, the covers are more accurately described as interpretations, the ISB certainly never sounded like this, and "Eleanor Rigby" is barely recognisable at times, especially the intro.

Blonde on Blonde was a guitar-led psychedelic rock group from South Wales. The band was formed in Newport in 1967 by vocalist/guitarist Ralph Denyer, drummer Les Hicks, bassist/organist Richard Hopkins and guitarist/sitar player Gareth Johnson. The band was named after Bob Dylan's 1966 album of the same name. In 1968 the quartet left Wales for London, and was joined by guitarist Simon Lawrance, playing clubs such as Middle Earth and appearing on the BBC TV series How Late It Is;;

Blonde on Blonde’s rendering is hearty stuff and one of the highlights of Contrasts. There’s also a cover version of The Beatles’ hymn of loneliness, ‘Eleanor Rigby’, on hand, substituting the orchestral accompaniment of the original for a stirring horn section. The Elizabethan-style olde-worlde psych of ‘Island on an Island’ is another notable example of the many pleasures that Contrasts has to offer  . Oh, and did I mention that the band took their name from the 1966 album of the same name by Bob Dylan? No? Ah well. by Nick James, Head Full Of Snow.
