Love Story is the third studio album by American rapper Yelawolf. It was released on April 21, 2015, by Interscope Records, Shady Records and Slumerican. The album was described by Yelawolf as a more passionate album than his debut album. Recording process took place primarily in Nashville, Tennessee from 2012 to 2015. The production on the album was handled by Yelawolf himself, along with Eminem (who also served as the executive producer), Malay and WLPWR, among others

With Yelawolf, things are different. Aside from two guest spots, (this one and this one) I haven't really listened to Yelawolf. I'm sure I penned a few blurbs early on in my DJBooth career, of course I've heard the music as it came floating by, but I never really took the time to dive into his library. Don't ask me why, I don't have a good reason. After reading Nathan's profile it seems like Love Story is a rebirth for him. It feels like he's shed his skin and is now a new, more seasoned artist. In a way then, Love Story seems like the perfect place to start our relationship because its a new start for him too; I won't be caught up in how it compares to his previous work. Clean slate for us both.

Yelawolf has spent years making Love Story, his second official album as a major label artist and first release since 2013’s Trunk Muzik Returns. The title of that last project, a mixtape, says plenty: Yelawolf was trying to recapture something he’d lost along the way. In the early years of his career, Yela seemed to be rattling around an industry that didn’t quite know how to deal with him. By 2009 he’d been signed and dropped by Columbia Records-an official debut got lost along the way-and then found his stride with a mixtape that might remain his best work to date.

Gadsen, Alabama native Yelawolf’s second studio album Love Story operates in a unique space as a caustic journey into the heart and soul of both a man and artist attempting to find a consensus within the twin lineages of outsider rap music and Southern hip-hop culture. In this being largely uncharted territory, the album veers in numerous directions to connect with these disparate audiences. When Love Story is great, it’s when the unique pieces of Yelawolf’s life discover similarly off-kilter spaces in which to manifest a new voice. Honest to his struggle and too great of a rapper to be completely dependent upon gimmickry and hooks, he occupies a space all his own. Therefore, the closer Yelawolf stays to his more style of Southern rap, he excels. And when he experiments within this space, even greater results are to be had as the superlative Johnny Cash shows
